Morning Detox Protocols
Morning detox protocols are so important I spend much of my time telling people about them.
My priority is to try and impress upon people that just because things look alright on the outside it doesn’t mean to say everything is all hunky-dory on the inside… we are living in a very toxic world and we are all paying a price for that biologically… Plus, there is no better time, than first thing in the morning, to start detox processes working… eliminating toxins works best at this time of day…
Don’t Stress It!
The most important advice I can give you is don’t stress about doing your morning detox protocols.
If you’re stressed just take a deep breath, flick on the kettle and take a seat! Keep on deep breathing, (preferably through your left nostril only, and breathing out for longer than you breath in), until the kettle boils, then make yourself your favourite herbal tea!
Stress is immensely toxic! You’ll definitely be defeating the object if you stress about doing these protocols. So! Get yourself de-stressed, and then give a few of them a whirl!
*There’s more advice on how to de-stress and why it is vital to do so, especially if you are female, and even more especially if you are menopausal, towards the end of this article…
Engaging The Vagus Nerve
The deep breathing and left nostril breathing exercise I mentioned above both engage the Vagus Nerve.
The Vagus Nerve has the ability to take us from the stressed ‘fight or flight mode’ into ‘relax, rest and digest’ mode. The latter is essential if we are going to have a functioning immune system and if we are going to stay well.
Wim Hoff takes a very Alpha Male approach to engaging the Vagus Nerve, but breathing techniques, like the above, and massaging the Vagus Nerve Point of the body are just as effective, if not more so. However, the video below is well worth a watch!
Two of the less extreme ways of engaging our Vagus Nerve can be done using Wild As The Wind products. Read more here:

Pick & Choose Your Morning Detox Protocols
Time is precious, so it’s important to choose the protocols which feel most appropriate for you personally.
Alternatively, (and this is the best way to do it), mix them up on a daily basis so you manage to do about five items on the morning detox protocol list, daily.
DO NOT religiously work your way through the entire list of morning detox protocols every single day.
All foods have inbuilt survival mechanisms which rely on being toxic to predators. (They are called lectins, and gluten is one of thousands of them.)
So, eating the same foods from the same source every day will mean you are building up toxic levels of the constituents within those foods. As a general rule of thumb, it’s best to do five to seven days on a food based protocol and then take a few days off.
To make it easier to take a break, we’ve made some of the protocols a little less appetising than perhaps you’d like…!
There’s Not So Many Michelin Stars Here
It’s perhaps important to clarify, at the get go, my favourite morning detox protocols aren’t my favourites because of how they taste! Yeah! Really not!
Instead, they’re my favourite detox protocols because of the way they make me feel!
It’s important to remember the way something makes you feel lasts a whole lot longer than the way something tastes… So, it pays to focus on doing things which offer long-term benefits instead of constantly going in search of taste sensations and instant gratifications.
This is not to say I don’t completely understand how compelling toxic food choices can be, especially when we’re all bleary eyed, and almost in auto-pilot in the morning.
I am a long standing food addict, (we tend to be addicted to foods we are intolerant of or allergic to), who has binged heavily on chocolate and wheat based foods for most of my life. I really struggle to metabalise both wheat and sugar, (as do we all, especially in the quantities we tend to consume them in within the modern Western diet), as I am gluten intolerant, and, owing to recent weight gain, I am likely insulin intolerant again, as well…
We All Make Bad Decisions Sometimes So Don’t Sweat It!
Hehem… healer heal thyself!! (It was Christmas! I fell off the wagon! But, oh boy, have I paid a ridiculously heavy price!)
However, even though my minor deviations from the straight and narrow have cost me dear, any concerns I have about insulin intolerance have not had me booking an emergency appointment with a G.P. I know all too well the conventional approach yields very few dividends in the diagnosis and recovery stakes when it comes to insulin intolerance.
Instead, I prefer to take responsibility for my actions and simply go about the business of rectifying the error of my ways, all on my ownsome!
There’s another thing I’ve learned not to do when I mess things up and potentially damage my health… I don’t beat myself up!
Negative self-speak is super-toxic and forgiving yourself for your digressions is super-healthy. So, every time my inner-critic fancies putting in an appearance I get ready to fend it off with some serious self-love!
More on this uber-effective detox protocol later…
Healing Crises
Here are some of the ways in which I remedy excesses, deal with environmental toxins, and generally navigate myself towards a course of disease prevention by taking a detour down the path of least resistance…
But, before I start listing all of the options, I want to make things very clear. Too much too fast will potentially bring on an unwanted and unhealthy reaction, called a healing crisis… and these aren’t good for anyone. They tend to actually set us back even further… so, they are best avoided at all costs.
Luckily healing crises are easy to spot… darned awful headaches and galloping fatigue are the typical signature sensations. If you start feeling either of these, or unwell in any other way, it’s time to slam on the breaks!
Now that I’ve made that all nice and clear… here’s your list of choices:
Gratitude Heals
Nothing heals like gratitude heals.
Finding a few moments in which to be grateful is worth hours of other detox work. Learning to be grateful for everything that life throws at us is the path to enlightenment!

Probiotics & Gut Health
Gut health starts in the morning! If you are recovering from illness, especially leaky gut, then taking the occasional good quality probiotic is important.
Although probiotics aren’t strictly part of a detox protocol they are certainly everything to do with the early morning.
It is difficult to deliver friendly flora to the intestines as they are forced to run the gauntlet of fire, (read hydroclauric acid), within the stomach, where many will perish. It’s important to take probiotics by the billions because so many will be destroyed by the hydroclauric acid in your stomach before they ever reach the intestines.
So, take them on an empty stomach, first thing in the morning. The sooner the better after the moment you wake up.
Read the full probiotic story in Gut Health.
Prebiotics & Gut Health
Prebiotics are also important here. Starchy, fibrous foods are great prebiotics, but things like acacia gum are great for supplementing.
Probiotics and prebiotics are vitally important for our gut health. And, without gut health we will be sick in all manner of different ways. This includes:
- Skin conditions
- Anxiety & Depression
- Hormone Issues
- Neural problems
So, pretty much every aspect of our wellbeing!
Warm Lemon & Cayenne
There’s a couple of protocols included in this article specifically for their benefits to the Gall Bladder and Bile. Warm lemon juice with Cayenne Pepper is a very important one.
Cranberry juice is also pretty useful!
The Warm Lemon & Cayenne Drink should be consumed before breakfast, and on the days you are not taking your Probiotic. It should also be taken at least 20 minutes before food.
*It is best to follow your warm lemon with oil pulling, (see next item). as the oil pulling procedure helps neutralise the pH of the mouth. It is also best to oil pull for 20 minutes, so the timing is right also.
It’s best to include the zested lemon skin in your warm Lemon and water. However, it’s a lot quicker and easier, on a work day, to simply add one or two drops of Organic Lemon Essential Oil and then skidaddle… I actually use one drop of Organic Lemon Essential Oil, one drop of Organic Sweet Orange Essential Oil and one drop of Organic Grapefruit Essential Oil in my early morning Lemon & Cayenne Drink.
The full benefits of Lemon & Cayenne Drink and directions on how to use…
Orange Essential Oil and Coconut Oil Pulling
Oil pulling is a fantastic way of naturally reducing harmful bacteria in the mouth and improving oral hygiene. As this protocol is all about eliminating superficial toxic matter and making life a lot easier on the digestive tract, I recommend that everybody does it on a daily basis.
Simply swish a dessert spoon of Coconut Oil along with a couple of drops of Organic Sweet Orange Essential Oil accompanied by a drop or two of Copaiba Essential Oil in and around your teeth and gums for something like 20 minutes every morning. It tastes great, and it does your oral hygiene a whole world of good.
Some people do it in the shower and others whilst they’re preparing breakfast… Just make sure you squirt the oil through the gaps in between your teeth… you will be astonished by how much debris this will eek out!
It has recently come to light that many illnesses start in the mouth. It is now thought that as much as 80% of the illnesses we suffer from originate in the mouth. There’s no denying that our mouths are fetid breading grounds for all kinds of ugly bugs, so oil pulling could save you from a lot of grief.
Organic Sweet Orange Oil is great for wiping out ugly bugs! And Coconut, is a pretty good anti-microbial too!
15 Minutes Outdoors Before Food
It’s important to get outdoors and get active first thing in the morning. Taking in sunlight, even in the depths of winter, is important for maintaining our Circadian Rhythm.
Our what?
Our Cir – ca – dian Rhythm! (Or, Cir – kay – dian Rhythm.)
And before you ask, this is the natural rhythm of life, the birth and death of each day reminding us of the fragility of all things and the preciousness of the moment.
It’s all about getting up with the dawn and going to bed at sundown. But to do this we need exposure to sunlight early in the day and we need to chill out in the evenings and allow our bodies to produce Melatonine, the sleep hormone, so that we’re able to get a good nights rest whilst being in tune with the rhythm of the earth.
It’s only been since the invention and widespread use of electricity that we have dramatically altered our sleeping habits. I’m sure there were a few of us in the 40’s who found it difficult to turn off our radio’s at the correct bedtime, but these days, with a population fueled by caffeine, over-worked, and often underpaid and stressed, intensely over-stimulated, and inclined towards the wholesale consumption of box-sets on Netflix, or embarking on marathon immersions on social media, the temptation to skip a healthy bed time is huge!
All that blue light being emitted by our devices, and the electro magnetic frequencies that we’re being subjected to are profoundly bad for our health, making it a double wammy of the bad stuff! But more on that in the follow-up article: Evening Detox Protocols. This article is all about the morning, and the new start that it affords us… Every day we have a new chance to do things differently, and adopting this attitude is a pretty detoxifying approach to the day, and life in general. Emotions are as toxic as heavy metals and artificial sweetners, so starting the day with an optimistic outlook is a pretty healthy way of doing it.
Importance Of Sleep
One thing I will say here tough… It’s only during sleep that our body repairs itself, so if you want to reduce the rate at which you age, and enhance the rate at which you heal, then going early to bed for at least eight hours sleep is the answer.

But now back to this morning…!
Intermittent Fasting
I advocate not eating for as long as possible after rising, especially if you are trying to lose weight. Intermittent fasting has been proven to be the only efficient means of losing fat and then maintaining an healthy weight afterwards. But, if waiting until midday isn’t possible, then at least get a bit of exercise in before eating breakfast.
***Intermittent fasting engages the Vagus Nerve.
Other forms of dieting don’t burn fat in such a healthy way as intermittent fasting, so if you can get 15 minutes of vigorous walking or gardening etc (read burst training), before you snack out on breakfast, this will help you burn fat, but won’t leave you feeling ravenous for hours.
Weight Loss & Toxicity
This burning off of fat releases toxins. The fat is the main place where the body stores it’s unprocessed waste. Burning fat whilst doing vigorous exercise allows a lot of the toxins to be released through our sweat. As much as 40% or our body waste is excreted via our skin.
Saunaing, especially in infrared saunas, is ideal for this kind of detoxing through the skin.
Eliminating toxins through our skin is very efficient for other reasons too. Skin elimination means we avoid reprocessing the toxins in the gut.
For this we need a binder to bind to the toxins so that we can safely eliminate toxic waste, like toxic metals etc, from the body.
Learn how to do this here: Heavy Metal Toxicity
Organic Sweet Orange Oil In Warm Water
The advice in this section is not strictly confined to the morning, although the taking and using of Organic Sweet Orange Oil is a great inclusion in your morning protocols.
For the full benefit of this amazing essential oil, take it three times a day, before meals, if possible. You’ll enjoy it every time, but never more so than in warm water after you come back inside after a spot of hard labour on a cold frosty day!
Orange Oil is pretty much good for everything, and unlike some of the other things I’m suggesting, this one tastes great!
Dear Rachel, I am trying the orange water you kindly [recommended] and loving it. I would now not wish to be without your beautiful products. Thank you. With love and gratitude.
Rachel, Shepton Mallet
Warm water is always tolerated better than cold water, so I recommend you drink it warm. If this offends, then drink it at room temperature.
The warmer the water the better, but it shouldn’t be anywhere near boiling. When warm the Sweet Orange Essential Oil will be carried out of the glass into your mouth very easily, and less will be left behind than if the water is too cool. Oil has an affinity with glass… warm water helps to loosen the glassy grip!
It’s better for you to drink Orange Essential Oil when it is in warm water and it’s better for the oil too.
Even more important than the temperature of the oil, it is imperative that you use Organic Sweet Orange Essential Oil. I don’t recommend ingesting hardly any essential oils, and I would certainly never recommend ever ingesting a non-organic essential oil.
It is particularly important to use organic Sweet Orange Essential Oil as conventionally produced oranges are heavily sprayed with highly toxic pesticides. In fact, unless you can access organic Sweet Orange Essential Oil we recommend you avoid this protocol.
The oil is cold pressed directly from the orange peel so the level of pesticides in Orange Essential Oil pressed from conventional oranges is exceedingly high.
So, to the health benefits:
Orange Essential Oil has been clinically proven to be emotionally uplifting… so what better way to start the day?
The key constituent in Organic Sweet Orange Oil, D-Limonene will:
- Boost immunity
- Support kidney health
- Provide antioxidant and anti-inflammatory affects
- Kill pathogens (like fungus) that can cause other diseases.
- Reduce stress
- Contribute to healthy weight loss
- Reduce the risk of Cancer… significantly!
Caution:
Do not confuse Organic Sweet Orange Essential Oil with Bitter Orange Essential Oil from Serville Oranges as this does not have the same benefits and it can promote extreme reactions in some people.
I practically go into anaphylactic shock when I come into contact with Serville Oranges.
Here’s a three and a half minute video with the lovely Dr. Ed Group, who, very much possesses the appearance of the only land-locked surfer-dude to ever emerge from Texas, but who is, in fact, very close to turning 50 and has more medical degrees than you’ve had healthy breakfasts!
Dr Group, through the Global Healing Centre, in Houston, retails a selection of amazing nutriceuticals , some of which have been specifically developed for detoxing. I have not used any myself, (but I intend to quite soon), however, a lot of highly respected, prominent natural health professionals swear by them, which is recommendation enough for me…
Connect With Your Tribe
Feeling isolated is more toxic than smoking, drinking alcohol and eating a MacDonald style diet. Find the time to connect with your closest friends in a meaningful way as often as possible. Or, if that’s not possible, go out to new places and make an effort to talk to new people. You can even reach out on social media… join groups, get chatting!
Blackseed Oil
Blackseed oil is amazingly curative for a whole host of reasons. But, the reason why it’s appearing amid my early morning detox protocols is because it is one of the best ways of eliminating parasites!
Yep, sorry! Intestinal and liver parasite infections are reaching pandemic proportions and we would all do well to employ preventative measures, and also embark on an elimination protocol about every six months, even if we don’t know for sure we’ve got them. Blackseed Oil, or Nigella Sativa, as it’s also known, is exceptionally good for us anyway, so it’s definitely one of the better ways or ridding ourselves of unwanted guests.
Parasites, as the name suggests, live off their host. This means that they are constantly helping themselves to the nutrients we are eating, which can lead to malnutrition over time.
***Go to the article devoted to Nigella Sativa for the full parasite detox protocol and all of the other healing benefits of Nigella Sativa
Tamarind, Cranberry Juice, Chlorella and Hawaiian Spirulena Etc…
I make a drink using the following most mornings:
- Tamarind
- Powdered (dehydrated) Cranberries
- Hawaiian Spirulina
- Chlorella
- Wheat Grass
- Barley Grass
- Baobab Powder
***I get a lot of the ingredients from Detox Trading
Tamarind is one of the few things with which to detox fluoride from the body. It is also very tasty and inexpensive.
It can easily be made into a Fluoride detoxing drink.
Cranberries are brilliant for getting the bile moving, (essential for detoxing), cleansing the kidneys and urinary system, preventing certain types of cancer, improving immune function, and decreasing blood pressure.
*Most importantly, the malic acid in Cranberries helps break down stagnant bile and assists in eliminating gallbladder stones.
It is difficult for the body to produce bile and so it has a tendency to recycle it many times before finally allowing it to be broken down and eliminated as waste. This allows toxins and heavy metals to be reabsorbed into the body, perpetuating a cycle of feeling toxic, unwell and unable to think straight.
All the things that we can do to help our bile stay fresh and healthy are vital for our overall health. This is why the warm lemon drinks first thing in the morning are vitally important also. The warm lemon helps dilute the bile and prevents it from getting thick and difficult to use. It is slow moving bile that allows gallbladder stones to be created.
All the others…
The other ingredients tend to be a little better understood and are more broadly written about, and so I’m going to refrain from writing long explanations here. Hopefully this will prompt you to start researching things for yourself… it’s a good habit to get into!
Suffice to say, the greens in Hawaiian Spirulena and Chlorella are fantastic for detoxing, and are particularly good at clearing metals… but only with a binder, like a green clay or Bentonite Clay.
Chlorella is particularly good for constipation… but, beware, if you are chronically constipated, start very gently with Chlorella. Only take micro doses compared to the suggested dose and build up over days and weeks to the recommended amounts.
Baobab is full of vitamins and minerals… but don’t take my word for it, why don’t you put it in your favourite search engine (ours is Duck Duck Go) and find out about Baobab for yourself…?
Or, if you’re way too lazy to launch into your own research, subscribe to the blog and wait for me to publish my Metal Detox Series. It’s coming soon… in the next month or so…
Cranberry Juice & Water
Even if you don’t manage to add all of the other ingredients it’s important to take your daily dose of Cranberry juice, (which I make from the dehydrated powder of the fruit).
Cranberry juice, because of it’s bile supporting activities, will go a long way to eliminating your cellulite, usually within a matter of weeks!!!
Cranberry Juice & Water taken separately…
7 parts water to one part Cranberry juice.
♥
Bile, beautiful bile,
There’s nothing quite like it
For doing what’s vile!
Your gallbladder is a use-it-or-lose-it organ. Cholecystectomy (surgical gallbladder removal) is now the most common “elective” abdominal surgery in America with more than 750,000 operations performed each year.
Even among those who still have their gallbladder, bile deficiency is a massive problem due to aging, diminished stomach acid, and inadequate intake of fat-metabolizing foods. Food allergies and sensitivities, stress and overeating further compound the issue…
Congested bile is linked to a whole host of seemingly unrelated symptoms including hormone dysfunction, hypothyroidism, hot flashes, constipation, depression, migraines, insomnia, dry skin, chronic fatigue, yeast overgrowth, parasites—and the list goes on. Finnish researchers found hypothyroidism is seven times more likely in individuals with reduced bile flow. Release of bile triggers the release of an enzyme that converts T4 into T3, the usable form of thyroid hormone. Those who improve their bile enjoy a whopping 53 percent bump in metabolism.
Read the full article regarding Bile, the essential functions it performs, how to keep it clean, and how to make the best bile on the block in the GreenMedInfo article entitled:
The Throwaway Organ You Can’t Live Without
Lecithin
The GreenMedInfo article provides a basic list of all the best foods for supporting the production of bile. One of the constituents on the list is Lecithin.
This wonderful substance, (that I prefer to be derived from sunflower seeds rather than soy), is a choline rich, fat-busting constituent that we should all be supplementing with.
I take a rounded teaspoon a day with a couple of glugs of water. It dissolves easily and it quite pleasent tasting.
Green Clay, Bentonite Clay and Diatomaceous Earth
Bentonite Clay, also known as Montmorillonite, is a naturally occurring clay made out of ancient volcanic ash. It should be a grey/cream colour. If it’s white, or near white, it is of inferior quality and should be avoided.
It’s important to purchase the highest quality, ‘food grade’ Bentonite and not the lesser qualities that are often produced for external use as mud packs, or for bathing etc. Even if you are not interested in using the clay internally I recommend you buy the food grade clay. 60% of everything applied on the skin gets absorbed… so, as far as I’m concerned, we shouldn’t be putting anything on our skin that we wouldn’t want to put in our mouth.
When Bentonite Clay is mixed with water it produces an electrical charge, so when it’s taken internally it is able to attract and absorb toxins, heavy metals, and chemicals. The electrical charge acts as the attractor and the clay itself acts as a binder.
Binders cling to toxins that are eliminated from the liver through bile. Binders can bind specifically to heavy metals, mycotoxins, endotoxins, biotoxins, as well as other environmental toxins. Binders help eliminate these toxins through the stool, as long as the gut is healthy, thereby avoiding reabsoption via the enterohepatic circulation.
Enterohepatic circulation refers to the circulation of biliary acids, bilirubin, drugs, or other substances from the liver to the bile, followed by entry into the small intestine, absorption by the enterocyte and transport back to the liver.
Glad we cleared that up! Thanks Wikipedia!
Zeolite Clay is another great binder to use.
Green Clay, or Illite, another very useful binder that also carries an ionic charge, which acts as a poultice for impurities when used topically or internally.
So efficient is Green Clay at binding to heavy metals that it is used commercially to extract metals from industrial wastewater.
It is comprised of a good array of essential minerals, iron oxides, and decomposed plant material like seaweeds.
Take one teaspoon of Green Clay dissolved in 200ml of water or 100ml of juice on an empty stomach, first thing in the morning. You could even take your morning probiotic at the same time! Let your diluted clay stand overnight, and stir it vigorously just before consumption.
Caution: You will destroy the electrical charge if you use a metal spoon! Read on…
Alternatively, leave it standing during the day and take it after cleaning your teeth just before you hit the sack.
Discontinue after three weeks and start up again a week later. You can do this as many times as you feel is necessary. When your energy is restored you can discontinue this treatment.
Illite is also used to relieve menstrual cramps, morning sickness, diarrhea, indigestion, and heartburn.
It is very important to avoid allowing any of these electrically charged clays from coming into contact with stainless steel spoons or other metallic implements and mixing bowls. Only use inert containers and implements, such as bone, silicon and, (I hate to say this), plastic!
Diatom, or Diatomaceous Earth, is made from petrified shells and is mainly comprised of silica.
Top tip: If you want to increase your consumption of natural silica within your diet, start eating more Kale. There’s two forms of silica found in the stems of Kale. Silica is profoundly anti-aging. That makes Kale instantly more appetising doesn’t it!?!
Like the clays, Diatom, and other forms of Silica, when taken daily can have a dramatic effect on your energy levels. The reason for this is that there are a number of toxic metals that interfere with the functioning of the mitochondria.
(Mitochondria are the energy centres of our cells, and if they malfunction, chronic disease will follow.)
Basically, our Mitochondria makes our body’s energy. Heavy metals in the body interfere with the energy producing functions of the Mitochondria.
***Look out for the heavy mental detox series that will be published in the next month or so. Subscribe to the blog to ensure you’re notified when the heavy metal detox articles are published.
Because of its detoxing capabilities, Silica is very anti-aging, as well as being another great binder for heavy metals. And, like Bentonite Clay, Diatomaceous Earth is also broadly used for the treatment of parasite infections. It is believed that the razor-edged micro particles of Diatom are lethal to many parasites as it delivers ‘death of a thousand cuts’ to invertebrate parasites.
Colloidal Silver
And, whilst we’re on the subject of killing bugs…
A 2013 study of silver nano particles, the ones used in true colloidal silver products, examined the effect of the silver against a variety of microorganisms. The researchers found significant effect against common disease-causing bacteria.
Researchers from around the world are currently testing silver nano particles for dental use. Importantly, one study found it helped prevent infection during root canals. There’s no way presently of making root canal dental work completely free of bacteria, which means that teeth that have been treated with root canals are then filled up again, locking in bacteria.
*Using Nascent Iodine can minimise the risk of infection during root canal work.
It is believed that as much as 80% of all disease starts in the mouth due to bacterial overgrowth.
How Does Silver Work Against These Organisms?
When a silver atom encounters a bacterial organism, it binds to the cell and the silver is absorbed through the cell wall. Once inside the organism, it stops certain essential metabolic functions. This supposedly kills the harmful organism.
It’s important to note that silver does this to bacteria and other harmful organisms yet it does not have this effect on healthy human cells.
Not All Colloidal Silver Really Is Colloidal Silver
The term colloidal is used to describe two types of silver products: true colloidal silver and ionic silver solutions.
The problem with the ionic variety is that it doesn’t make it through the digestive processes. Colloidal silver is stable, allowing it to survive the digestive process, thereby permitting it to be absorbed into the bloodstream.
True colloidal silver contains nano particles of silver suspended in water.
Drink Water
Alongside exfoliating and increasing the rate of skin cell renewal, drinking water is probably one of the most profoundly anti-aging things we can do for our skin and bodies. In fact, not drinking enough water seriously compromises all of our bodily functions, and will significantly contribute to toxic build-up within the body. It will subject the digestive system and urinary systems to high levels of stress, and the kidneys and liver will also struggle without sufficient fluid to flush them out.
We are 79% water, and so the blood will be impaired when we are dehydrated. And, it will also adversely affect our brain health.
Sometimes drinking water just isn’t enough. In fact, drinking large amounts of the wrong kinds of water can be really bad for you.
We recommend completely avoiding drinking water directly out of the tap as this is contaminated with gut biome destroying chemicals and neuro-toxins, as well as high concentrations of synthetic contraceptive hormones, antibiotics, pesticides, herbicides and fluoride etc…
Instead, we recommend the effective filtration of water before consumption using a whole house water filtration system, or, at least, a drinking water filtration system.
Drinking water out of plastic bottles is also a dangerous pursuit. Bisphenol A, or BPA, is an endocrine disrupting carcinogen within plastic bottles that is released if they are stored in a warm environment. There are other components in plastics which are known to be equally dangerous, but, it is very likely that there’s a lot of dangerous elements in plastics that we simply can’t test for at present.
Glass is a very inert substance with very poor conductivity. This makes it an ideal material in which to store foods and fluids. Bottled water in glass bottles is, therefore, a lot safer than plastic.
But, drinking too much filtered water can present us with a lot of problems also!!! We need sufficient electrolytes in order to metabolise water and remain hydrated. Without mineral salts the water we drink will flush through us and will actually rob us of minerals as they are excreted out of the body via our urine.
Sea Salt To The Rescue!
Re-mineralising our water with Sea Salt, which is mineral rich, is an important part of our daily routine.
It is particularly important to add larger amounts of Sea Salt to our first glass of water of the day as this really helps to de-stress the Adrenal glands.
Milk Thistle
Another thing I believe we should all be doing every day, as long as we’re tolerant of it… (so easy does it!)… is taking the wonderful liver detoxifying herb, Milk Thistle.
It is important to ensure that the liver is working well if you are going to gently start increasing the rate at which you are detoxing your body. Nothing will be eliminated by the body if the liver is overburdened, so clearing the liver at the outset, is a really good idea.
Milk Thistle, in tincture form, is an ideal means of flushing out the liver.
The powdered plant form of Milk Thistle goes off very quickly, which means it is difficult to store. To extend the short life of your Milk Thistle powder it is best kept in the freezer. This is, of course, not ideal…
Because the powdered Milk Thistle really doesn’t taste that great, I had a tendency towards skipping this protocol until my Milk Thistle powder got shunted further and further back in my freezer, until one day it simply disappeared out of sight… I can quite honestly say, I have not seen that foul tasting powdered Milk Thistle in months!
Instead, I fished out an old bottle of Milk Thistle tincture from the back of my medicine drawer a few months back, and then replaced it when I ran out with a big new bottle. I still don’t get round to taking it every day, even though I believe it is one of the few things we should take on a daily basis for the rest of our lives… but, at least, it sits quit happily on the work top and gets used more days than it doesn’t!
*There is no way that I would have survived giving up smoking a few months back if it weren’t for the amazing detoxification abilities of Milk Thistle!
Nascent Iodine
Iodine is an essential nutrient, particularly for thyroid function, but many of us are Iodine deficient.
Iodine is utilised by every hormone receptor in the body. A deficiency in Iodine, therefore, causes a body-wide hormonal dysfunction.
It isn’t so easy to obtain Iodine via food sources, not least because the soil within which much of our produce is grown is heavily depleted.
This is why supplementing with Kelp or Nascent Iodine is essential.
Iodine is necessary for the proper function of many of the body’s tissues including the breasts, pancreas, brain, stomach, adrenal glands, skin, salivary glands, and cerebral spinal fluid. Iodine deficiency can lead to a dysfunction of these tissues and cause symptoms such as dry mouth, dry skin, reduced alertness, brain fog, fibromyalgia, fibrocystic breasts, and many others. Some studies have shown that iodine deficiency leads to a higher risk of developing various cancers, especially of the breast, prostate, and ovaries.
Humans tolerate large doses of iodine. The ultra-high doses that were used a century ago are helpful in medical emergencies—specifically when facing antibiotic resistant infections, viruses and stubborn fungal and yeast infections. Iodine’s true role—making up more than 1/2 of the body’s Immune System—is not well understood. Deficiencies in iodine have a great effect on the immune system and its response to infectious diseases including cancer, which in many cases, up to 40 percent, are caused by infections.
As well as being critically important to the fundamental functioning of the body, Iodine is also very efficient at helping the body detoxify heavy metals. In addition, it makes water more soluble. If you have silver fillings, or you eat a lot of fish, or you are exposed to heavy metals via other sources, (smoking, or passive smoking, for example), then Iodine is vitally important in your diet. In fact, it is vitally important even in the absence of these factors!
Iodine helps eliminate toxic metals like mercury, lead, and cadmium and, like Tamarind, it also helps decalcify the fluoride build-up in the Pineal Gland, as well as helping to detoxify the build-up of fluoride and bromide in the Thyroid Gland.
The dosage range is approximately 12.5 to 50 milligrams of Iodine if you are interested in excreting metals like Lead and Mercury. Usually this will begin happening within a short period of time; even within 24 hours.
When performing a metal detox of any kind it is essential to remain optimally hydrated. Water is one of the key vehicles for transporting the metals out of the body, and if you’re not drinking enough the metals can linger for too long within your evacuation channels and be reabsorbed.
Caution: Some people, when they first start taking Iodine, begin to experience an healing crisis. If this happens to you follow the advice provided in the healing crises section of this article.
Another benefit of Iodine is that it’s a co-factor for Insulin so it helps to prevent Type 2 Diabetes. In fact, Iodine deficiency is one of the leading contributing factors in type 2 diabetes.
Turmeric & MSM
Tumeric and MSM are two of the most anti-inflammatory substances known to mankind.
Many people believe that all ill-health is caused by inflammation, and that chronic inflammation leads to life-threatening and degenerative conditions.
Regularly taking Turmeric, (for the active constituent Curcumin), along with Black Pepper and Coconut Oil will have a dramatic impact on inflammatory conditions such as Rheumatism and Arthritis. However, we all have differing levels of inflammation occurring throughout the body, even though we are blissfully unaware of it most of the time. I, therefore, recommend all of us take Turmeric on a very regular basis.
The absorption rate of Turmeric is vastly increased by adding Black Pepper and Coconut Oil.
Piperine, in Black Pepper, is similar to Capsaicin, a chemical in Chili Pepper, which offers many health benefits.
Unfortunately, Curcumin is very poorly absorbed by the body. Much of the ingested Curcumin is metabolised before absorbtion can take place.
Piperine, in Black Pepper, makes Curcumin much more bio-available. (Piperine is considered to inhibit certain intestinal digestive enzymes that prohibit the absorption of Curcumin.)
*In fact, it is believed that Piperine increases the absorption of any drug or supplement.
The ratio of Turmeric to Black Pepper should be 100:1.
So, if you are taking a 2g teaspoon of Turmeric, you should add 20mg of freshly ground Black Pepper to ensure optimal absorption.
*This should increase absorption by 2,000%!
MSM
MSM is a little-known healing powerhouse that delivers biologically active sulfur to the system. Sulfur, which naturally occurs in onions and garlic etc, is the fourth most abundant mineral in the body.
Sulfur is vital to a large number of critical bodily functions, a bit like how critical Iodine is for the function of the Thyroid etc…
Because of it’s body-wide importance supplementation with MSM can reap body-wide benefits. It is brilliant for reducing inflammation, lessening the damage imposed by stress, reducing the pain related to inflammatory conditions such as osteoporosis, improving our immunity, thickening our hair and keeping it healthy, helping to eradicate leaky gut syndrome, and raising our energy levels.
Whilst it can be applied topically to alleviate skin-level conditions, I advocate taking a heaped teaspoon daily in water. (It tastes pretty bitter so it’s good to get it down in one shot!)
Topical applications of MSM diluted in water with Sylmarin (the active constituent in Milk Thistle), can repair the skin and treat skin conditions caused by allergic reactions in the body, such as; Rashes, Eczema and Rosacea etc…
Because MSM is an essential constituent in the production of collagen, it is believed to help prevent wrinkles, scar formation, sun damage and patches of skin discolouration etc…
When Wild As The Wind can afford to, we intend to develop Facial Oil No. 9. This will be a a product containing Silymarin, MSM and Dead Sea brine, to help treat bodily skin conditions that will be so fine it will be ideal for facial applications.
So please keep buying the FACIAL OIL No. 2 and FACIAL OIL No. 7 along with the Cleansers so we can make FACIAL OIL No. 9 a reality. Let’s face it, if you follow all of the protocols listed in this article you’re going to live for a pretty long time…
There’s no doubt about it, we’re all going to need FACIAL OIL No. 9…. big time!
Dry Brushing
Dry brush for five or so minutes before you shower.
Dry brushing stimulates the blood supply and encourages the skin to release toxins. We release 40% of our body waste through the skin. Nice!!! (But true.)
It will, therefore, dramatically improve the appearance of cellulite, created by toxic deposits in our dermal fat), over time. More immediate results will be evident in less than a week, however.
The condition of the skin will be vastly improved. Pimples and tough skin around hair follicles, particularly on the backs of the legs and around the knees, will start to disappear. The skin will also feel more firm, but softer to the touch.
Dry brushing is a great way to increase the bodies ability to detoxify and is best done everyday for the rest of our live-long lives!
Shower immediately after dry brushing to wash away the toxic waste that has been emitted. If we let it rest on the skin it is likely to be reabsorbed.
*Showering for ten minutes is equivalent to drinking 4 glasses of chlorinated water.
Chlorine and all the other toxins in the mains water supply are really bad news. The last thing you want is to be absorbing them through your skin.
Wild As The Wind are great advocates of mineral baths… we are so committed to educating people about, and increasing the adoption of, detoxifying salt baths that we supply a full range of Bath Salts for people to use. But, if you are going to place your beautiful Bath Salts in unfiltered water you are likely to be doing yourself as much harm as you are doing good. (Foot baths using filtered water heated up in the kettle are an healthy option here.)
But, why not consider a whole house water filtration system if you can afford it, or buy yourself a independent shower water filter if not. These can be picked up for as little as £30.00, but obviously, the filtration materials will need replacing regularly, just like the filters in water jugs.
Grounding and De-Stressing
A lot of the routines I recommend within this post are very grounding, which will help us start our days in a much more composed and centered manner. Stress is one of the top causes of hormone imbalance, compromised immunity, and is a leading precursor to serious illness.
Everything from eating roots, (like Turmeric), and methodically preparing healthful preparations, and spending 15 minutes outside first thing in the morning, (vigorously walking or gardening (collecting herbs etc)), all have a very grounding effect on us.
I personally believe that chronic stress will eventually become a death sentence. But, I’m not alone. There are many health professionals, and much research saying the same thing.
It is thus, extremely important to find ways in which we can individually learn to relax. Some methods, suggested below, will appeal to everyone, whilst others may only appeal to those with spiritual inclinations or who have an interest in the metaphysical.
Stress & Women’s Health
It is important to briefly mention that women are particularly prone to the devastating effects of stress on their health. Cyclic women, (women who still menstruate), really need to take it easy in the third week of their cycles. So, from day 14 through till day 21 they should really put their feet up and let someone else take up the slack.
There is an increasing body of evidence that cyclic women who experience large amounts of stress during the third week of their cycle are likely to go on and develop life threatening conditions.
Cyclic women, and men for that matter, should also read the next section on stress and menopause for the physiological insights into how stress is disrupting our normal systemic functioning.
Stress & Menopause
Stress is super-bad news during the menopause also. There’s a very little known fact about stress and menopause that even your doctor is unlikely to know. That being, your body uses your Progesterone to make the stress hormone Cortisol.
Cortisol is the hormone we produce in the Adrenal Glands that is designed to fuel our ‘fight or flight’ response.
Cortisol is a bit like the turbo injection thrusters in car engines that release more fuel into the engine to make the car go a lot faster. When Cortisol is released into our system it shuts down unnecessary processes (like digestion etc.) and turbo boosts our energy system. Cortisol should only be released when we need to flea from danger or stand and fight to protect ourselves, or nearest and dearest.
However, modern life has changed so much, these base instincts are rarely needed. Instead, we find ourselves in much more constant states of stress that are having lethal implications on our health. More and more of us are remaining in a contestant state of stress at work, or just trying to keep up with the pace of modern life, to such an extent that our bodies are forgetting how to return to the relaxed mode.
The fact that we are much more likely to be producing a lot more Cortisol leaving us with little to no Progesterone left, and there’s so many toxic Xeno-oestrogens (synthetically produced Oestrogens) in our environment that are ramping up our Oestrogenic load, many women are finding themselves extremely Oestrogen dominant, and going through a process that I call menopausal hell as a consequence.
I know all about it. I’ve been there!
So, it’s time to get our stress under control. As well as cutting out caffeine and other stimulants, especially sugar, we can all practice the following exercises to bring back balance, and may be take up Yoga, Chi Gung or Pilates etc etc…
Parasympathetic Nervous System Breathing Exercise
Many of us are spending much of our lives in a sympathetic state. Whilst this may suggest we are all merrily going about life in a very supportive fashion, the reality is somewhat different…
The sympathetic nervous system is reserved for our ‘fight or flight’ response, which is designed to kick in when we are presented with situations that we feel are putting us in danger. These situations, either perceived or real, will elicit a feeling that we either need to stand and fight to protect ourselves or we need to take flight and escape the perceived threat.
The ‘fight or flight’ response is the culmination of a series of hormonal processes that take place within the endocrine system. The endocrine system is very complex, but suffice to say it is responsible for regulating hormones.
The adrenal glands, that rest on top of the kidneys, produce hormones, called Adrenaline and Cortisol, that trigger the fight or flight response. They provide the energy to enter into physical combat or scarper!
Fight or flight is an entirely healthy response to extreme provocations.
However, modern life is filled with all kinds of stressors. A lot of us have punishing schedules, highly stressful jobs, volatile home lives and not enough leisure time to get enough exercise to help us relax or to go out and enjoy ourselves to blow off steam.
We are also addicted to stimulants such as caffeine and sugar which further exacerbates the situation.
Consequently, a lot of us are practically permanently stuck in red alert mode, suffering from unendurable stress levels. It may feel exhilarating to begin with, (I can testify to this having been a life-long adrenaline junkie myself), but the problem is that living life on turbo-thrust is just, quite simply, unsustainable. Something has to give… and it’s usually several things, rather than just one, that cave under the pressure.
Physically we start suffering from adrenal fatigue, compromised immunity and chronic fatigue, where we become increasing reliant on stimulants to keep us going, which only accelerate the damage. We are often affected psychologically as well, mood swings and anxiety become more common, and even panic attacks start rearing their ugly heads etc…
It is, therefore, critical to try and release ourselves from the clutches of unnecessary spells spent in the ‘fight or flight’ response.
One of the easiest ways to do this is through breathing exercises.
I absolutely love Dr Group from the Global Healing Centre, (I love his incredible knowledge, and his fantastic nutriceuticals)… So, here he is again, telling us a load of great stuff we really need to know… and teaching us how to breathe… What’s not to love…!?! And don’t forget… this guy is nearly 50!!! Amazing huh!?!?!?
But, if you don’t have 12 minutes to watch the video, here’s the manual instructions:
Breathe in for four seconds, hold for seven and then breathe out slowly for as long as possible.
Another option is to hold the right nostril shut whilst breathing as deeply, slowly and consistently as possible with the left nostril. One minute of doing this should be enough.
If you smoke, however, do yourself a massive favour, and watch this video… it will change your life!!!
Grounding & Centering Exercise / Five Minute Meditation
There’s no written instructions for this one… just watch the video… you’ll be glad you did…
Laughter
If all that breathing, flushing, supplementing and boiling of the kettle starts to grind you down a little, just remember that laughter is one of the best ways to detox, de-stress and is one of the best anti-againg secrets I’ll ever reveal to you.
And that’s why God created Katie Goodman!
If the consequences of a toxic modern life are; weight gain, auto-immune disease, brain fog, forgetfulness, and early-onset dementia, then Katie Goodman is surely the cure? Ooooooorrr… is she suffering from these things herself? I’ll let you be the judge…
(Perhaps the list of issues listed in this song could be the subject of a separate article…? Please let me know if you’d like me to write about that…)
EMF
EMF, electromagnetic frequencies, or electromagnetic fields, are a key contributor to our stress levels. EMF’s are everywhere, and so it’s impossible to eradicate them completely, but there’s a lot of good things we can do to reduce their negative impacts on our health.
I recommend you watch the video interview with Dr Jay Davidson in the Wild As The Wind article to help you decide how to eradicate a lot of EMF’s from your home. And I also advise you to buy a piece of Shugite Jewellery to protect you when you are out and about.
It is also possible to buy Shungite Mobile Phone Plates that are very low cost, and self-adhesive, with a very strong bond.
To determine the efficacy of Shungite for EMF protection I urge you to watch the video in the Sungite & EMF section of the article.
Blue Screen, Dirty Energy & Their Disastrous Health Effects
It is predicted that blue screen / blue light, which is widely understood to be a form of light that accelerates aging, will also have disastrous effects on our eyes. A blindness epidemic is being predicted by leading health professionals.
Dirty energy is caused by things in our homes such as eco bulbs. This dirty energy is seriously bad for our health. Not only is it stressing us out, but the eco bulbs are also subjecting us to heavy metal toxicity.
Detoxing EMF & Environmental Radiation
Rather than making this article any longer than it needs to be, (well done for getting this far!!!), I advise you to go to the article I’ve written entitled Detoxing EMF & Environmental Radiation.
Breakfast
When you do finally get round to eating something solid, start by munching down three or four Brazil Nuts to get your daily dose of Selenium, a small handful of Walnuts for the Magnesium and Omega 3 brain food you really need, and three or four Macadamias which are rich in B Vitamins along with Vitamin A, Iron, Manganese, Folate and a bunch of Antioxidants.
Like all nuts, Macadamias are a good source of protein, but this delicious nut also offers healthy fats that aren’t available in other nuts, that are brilliant for your brain.
High protein, high fat, breakfasts are the best for brain health, and contrary to popular belief, they will help you lose weight. But, to do this, you must eliminate sugar and processed carbs from your diet completely.
I’m guessing, after reading this article, you’ve already got a much better understanding of why there’s a lot more reasons to cut these deathly foods from the menu… and, you feel a whole lot more willing to do so. ♥
Fellow sugar addicts don’t dismay. It takes less than two weeks to completely get past the cravings for sweet things and carbs, and if you replace the Dopamine, (happy hormone), you get from sugar and carbs with Dopamine gained from exercise you will make giving up all these nasty, health robbing foods a whole lot easier! ♥
I wish you all the very best… ♥ ♥ ♥
Give thanks for the day!
Even if the rain is heaping down, the traffic is terrible, and you’re late… be grateful! ♥ ♥ ♥
A Question For You…?
Why is it important to eat 2x dessert spoons of Linseeds and 2x dessert spoons of Chia Seeds a day?
And why is it important to soak them over night?
And why should they be blended?

Wow Rachel, you are a powerhouse of information which I truly appreciate. I am often watching/listening to people from the USA informing of these subjects, so to find someone on the ball in the UK is fabulous.
I think linseeds and chia seeds are important for an array of nutrients, Omega 3’s, fibre., hormone balancing… Grinding/soaking makes them much easier to digest and get all the nutrients. Blending them gives steady energy and keeps you full longer. I have been taking ground linseeds, but not chia, which I will be adding! Thank you for all you do. 🙂
